Temporary fix for hard drive error

This is not misleading. last week, i was playing need for speed most wanted on my laptop. For the first time in my laptops history, it froze on me.i had to head to work at this time though so i just force shut it down.

Anyways when i came back it wouldn't turn on. It said disk type error or no disk error.

so here is what i did.

1. i kept turning it off and on again hoping it would work but i would give in for nothing.
2. tried to use the CD/ROM but it wouldn't read from the cd drive either.
3. i took out the hard drive and changed the boot order in bios and then tried using the cd drive.
4. This time it worked. i tucked in an 8 Gb usb drive to install my windows on but windows wouldn't allow it.
5. there is always an alternative. i changed the cd to Ubuntu 0.04. i have the cd for about a year now. on the site here, http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop, there is ubuntu 12.04 LTS. i personally have not tried that yet but am sure the installation will do the same as 10.04 LTS.
6. So i installed Ubuntu 10.04 in the USb. it took about an hour or less.
7. there was my laptop. UP and running.
8. i downloaded important files for the new installation. for instance, the mp3 codecs among others. i also installed VLC
9. This was a temporary fix for my laptop. this helped me to do my basic work since it took me a whole week to actually get the hard drive for my laptop.If one goes through the same issue, hope this helps.

NOTE: sometimes when the computer displays disk type or no disk error, there is a possibility that it actually is not the hard drive. It was the HDD in my case though.

Winflip for windows

Ok, so many of us have went to windows 7. i had windows 7 but my machine crashed and i got another machine. it isnt as fast as my previous so when i had windows 7 installed on it, it would drag my games.

So i installed Xp on it. However, i like this windows expose feature of it. SO i kept looking for a expose app out here on the net. There is one called Windows Flip. There are a few expose apps out there such as DExpose2. I tried that but it does not meet what i expected. I then found Winflip from softtonic.

Well guys there you have it. WinFlip

This app is awesome in both allowing quick selection of windows and also does it in a fancy way.

Wordpress

Hey guys, i am currently working on Wordpress. I have already setup my local wordpress. i just need to do some mods to it and fix it. Then i was hoping to make it live.


I believe in share ware and open-source software. later on i might actually get more in depth with these software.

Well back to my wordpress- I have XAMP installed on my Windows box. I was gonna work on Ubuntu but i will give Windows a try for now and see how far i could go with it. Installing wordpress is pretty easy. If anybody want to experiment, i could assist you with what i have so far. Its the second time i am working with word press. i have done my Ubuntu server already but i accidentally broke it so its gone along with my web server and wordpress.

I just want to help those who are new to these things as i am not yet an expert either. .

Intro

Hey guys, This is my first Blog. anyways i want to write about my issues and solutions i face with computers.

I have an associates degree in network administration. I am currently employed part time at a local computer lab.

I live in Belize by the way.]

Well i am a fan of Linus Torvalds. I use ubuntu 10.04 and i also still use windows xp.
Xp is for gaming purposes and Ubunut is for work purposes. Anyways I like to mod and tweak both of my OS for better performance and appearance at times.

Well the purpose of my blog is to share ways i accomplish these. I am not an expert but i do know quite a few on computers. Not hard ware though. i am more software. Hardware issues is my weakness at the moment.

Well feel free to leave a comment and if you have some questions, i'd be willing to assist where i could.
